Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service offered through the cooperative state-wide consortium MINITEX to obtain books, articles, and other materials that are not available from the M State library collection. ILL is free to M State students, faculty, and staff.
To place an InterLibrary Loan you will go to the M State Library Catalog located HERE and sign in with your StarID and Password. If you forget to do this at the beginning you will be asked to enter your information later.
In the search bar click on the green magnifying glass to see a list of places to search. Select MnPALS so that you are searching all of the libraries in MnPals, those are the libraries that borrow books to us.
Once you find the item or article you want to request, click the title to enter the item record. Click on the white box labeled Resource Sharing under the How to get it section.
If you've already signed in with your StarID the form should automatically fill out with your information, if you forgot this is when you will be prompted to sign in. Double check your information is correct, specifically your Email and Pickup Location. At the bottom of the form you will need to check a box acknowledging you are not breaking copyright rules and then you can click the Send Request button. If you are requesting an article you should receive a copy of it in your email within a few days, it can take up to a few weeks to receive a book although the average time is about a week.
To check on the status of your request, click on your name in the upper right hand corner of the screen. In the drop down menu click on My Requests.
You will see a list of the items you on request and where they are at in the ILL process. This is also where you can cancel a request if you change your mind. If you have any questions about your requests or the Interlibrary Loan process please reach out to me at kari.oanes@minnesota.edu
